The Building regulations make provisions for visual contrast between:
- Ironmongery and door faces
- Some door faces and door edges - where doors are not self closing or are held open
- Door faces & pilasters
- Handrails & walls
- Floors & walls
Contrast visually is given as a difference in light reflectance value (LRV) between two surfaces of greater than 30 points. Excelsior offer a range of ironmongery colour finishes to comply with these guidelines.
The act also gives guidelines for the minimum requirements for both size and the recommended hardware for Disabled & Ambulant cubicles. This information along with the LRV of Polyrey, Formica and Trespa laminates will be available soon on this website.
Surfaces should be cleaned regularly by dusting and by wiping with a clean, damp cloth without
polish (polishes promote ring marks) and without abrasive cleaners (may abrade the surface).
Both should be avoided. Some highly coloured fruit and vegetable juices, hair dyes, bleaches,
caustic alkalis and strong mineral acids will stain if not removed immediately.
Recommended general treatment is given in the table:
Remove with clean, damp cloth
Acetone
Coffee
Hair colouring
Organic Solvents
Tea

Ingrained dirt on textured surfaces, can be removed with the use of a
soft nailed brush and the recommended cleaner.
